Welcome to the first post. On this new blog I'll be sharing info about the Silent Voices series, news about the book, sneak peeks at work in progress, giclees as they become available and more.
For the first bit of news... this month is National Adoption Awareness Month so for the month of November I've reduced the price of both versions of the book. The print version is $7.99 and the Kindle edition is only $2.99. In the book you'll find 11 full color paintings and the accompanying narrative poetry that tells some of the story of my experience with adoption.
So, how did this get started and what made me do/paint/write this book? I've been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I've been living with adoption almost as long even though I didn't know it. I know that sounds strange. I'm what you call an adoptee-lite, a step-parent adoptee but I didn't find out about it until I was in my mid-twenties. I think deep down I really did know but because of the stories I was told I pushed it aside and just figured I had a strange dream or maybe my kid imagination had just run away with me. Needless to say it was quite interesting to find that I wasn't who I thought I was. My other adoption experience is with being a mother of adoption loss. That means my daughter was taken from me in a forced/coerced closed adoption in 1980. In 2002 I was able to find my daughter and reunite.
These two things, art and adoption, are huge for me. After the reunion I started sketching and thinking more about combining these two aspects of my life. It just made sense. Well, once I got the ball rolling, BAM - collision course. I haven't been able to stop working and I'll keep going until I run out of things I need to say about it. Stay tuned....... more to come.
